You can't beat a professional wireless site survey. I haven't used it but that could be another solution if you have a windows laptop that doesn't have good wifi built in or you need to check other RF interference that is not wifi. You can get a WiSpy dongle to go with inSSIDer for a few hundred bucks. The best one of those and the one we use for big site surveys is AirMagnet but that will set you back about $10,000. You'll get much more accurate scans and even be able to scan for other non-wifi interference with one of those special usb wireless dongles. If you are going to scan on a PC, just make sure you have a good wireless chipset on a high quality laptop or you use a high quality USB dongle so you get good accurate results. In my experience, Macs will give you a much better reading because they have a better quality wireless chipset and antenna than most cheap Windows PCs.
